The Cost of Swimming Facilities

When it comes to communities cutting costs, public swimming facilities are one of the first to be affected due to the high cost of maintenance , staffing, and construction. The largest of these costs is staff. Lifeguards usually make above minimum wage, and for most swimming facilities more than one guard must be on duty at all times. While this does create jobs for a younger demographic that stimulates spending in different areas, it still costs a lot for the facility. The maintenance of pools is also important in order to be safe for swimmers. This is why the cost of chemicals and heating is the second highest cost for most pools. These high expenses deplete money from the facility quickly, and pools do not usually create much revenue unless it is a popular water park or facility. This means that because of the high cost of running a pool, it is not uncommon for pools not to break even on costs.
